Hope you’ve all had a gorgeous Bank holiday weekend so far. Despite lashings of sun cream I seem to have gone a little bit pink, but I’ve loved sitting in the sun and little old Leeds feeling like somewhere abroad! How has your week been?
It’s been a hard few days here in one sense because we found out our landlord is selling the house and we’ve got to move. I guess I’m lucky because I’ve never had to leave somewhere before I’ve felt ready in the past; it’s a strange feeling. I can’t pretend that I haven’t been pretty anxious about it but there’s been so many wonderful things happening too – here’s my round-up of ten positives from the last fortnight.
1. A different kind of hen do
The hen do’s I’ve been on so far have all taken place in a city but last weekend was spent in the middle of nowhere in the Lake District, looking out on the gorgeous view below! Being more of a cocktails and spa kind of gal, I was a little apprehensive about a day of outdoor activities but we had so much fun and it was great to get out of my comfort zone and try something new. We did quadbiking, archery, go-karting and had a ride on an argocat which was like being on a cross-country rollercoaster!
2. Calligraphy projects
I’ve been busy on the lettering front and finished up some work for a baby shower, as well as table signs for a wedding I’m bridesmaid for in just a couple of weeks now (very excited!)
3. Talking to camera
I finally plucked up the courage to talk to camera on Instagram stories! I was looking for a new TV series to get into and got some great suggestions, it was ace. I’ve since gone on stories a few times and once without any make-up, which might not sound like a big deal but it felt pretty terrifying. It’s been so nice to interact with people and has made stories a lot more personal so I’ll definitely carry on popping up now and then. If we’re not friends yet on Instagram you can find me here.
4. Getting hooked on a new series
One of the suggestions I got for a series was Marcella and honestly we watched the first one in just three sittings, it was awesome. If you’re looking for a gritty thriller, it’s perfect. You can find the first series on Netflix and the second – which we’re now onto – on ITB Hub.
5. Learning how to make blondies
If you read my 2018 bakes post from last week, you’ll know that I gave blondies a go for the first time and these have to be my favourite bake so far because they were delicious!
6. The blossom tree outside our house
The blossom tree outside our house has been making me happy on a daily basis – every time I open our bedroom curtains I’m greeted with a sea of pink. It’s starting to wilt a little now but is still looking so pretty, especially against these current blue skies.
7. A treat of a facial
My very generous sister bought me a voucher for a Liz Earle facial as a birthday present a couple of months ago. I managed to redeem it last week and it was so good! I’m planning to write a blog about it soon because there was so much involved and all sorts of gadgets as well as the products.
8. A regram that made me happy
Speaking of Liz Earle, the lovely people that manage their Instagram regrammed my illustration on Friday! It was a drawing I posted a couple of weeks ago of their cleanser and toner, and I was chuffed to bits that they shared it.
9. Family time
Aaron’s brother is moving to Dubai today and we’re really going to miss him. We had an evening with the whole family on Friday night which involved watching the Tour de Yorkshire live (then coming back to pile on the sofa and see ourselves on TV because we’re that cool), drinks and food outside, then games, more drinks, music and some questionable duets! It was such a lovely evening and with my own parents being far away, I’m really grateful to have an adopted family here.
10. Fun in the sun
I’ve got to include the weather again (so British I know) because when do we get a bank holiday with sun?! Some friends came over yesterday and we sat out in a beer garden soaking up the rays and catching up, feeling like we were on holiday.
What’s been making you happy in the last couple of weeks?
