How I’m beating Blue Monday

At this time of year it feels easy to get blue about things. Christmas has come and gone, and now it’s winter without the presents, the snowy properly cold bit when spring feels like a distant dream and you stop caring how ridiculous you look because if it’s a bobble hat and thermals or getting hypothermia, you’ll take the first option. Today in fact is supposed to be Blue Monday, the most depressing day of the year. But this got me thinking. As much as I’m dreaming of a holiday somewhere hot and lying by a pool, there are lots of little things that make me happy. Small, simple things that are a lot more realistic than jetting off on a plane.

Starbucks lattes, bubble baths, blogging, post, photos of friends, red lipstick, messages from people I love, good music, New Girl, hugs, having people over, going out dancing, any TV show with Michael McIntyre or Alan Carr, fresh sheets, singing in the shower, new socks and hot chocolate are all things that cost little or no money and make me irrationally happy. What is happiness for you? Perhaps savouring the small stuff is one of the best ways to beat the January blues.
